The best of Haworth

I haven't blogged a lot recently but there are a few things which deserve a mention.
The Haworth 1940's weekend was an unqualified success and congratulations are surely due to the new band of people who took over when the event seemed to be doomed earlier in the year.
Not a criticism but wouldn't it be good to see events of a smaller scale continuing right through the summer in our village?
Haworth Festival is next on the agenda and there seems to be be an eclectic mix of events going on there to suit all age groups and tastes. They all have our full support.
I hope I'm forgiven a special mention of our event at West Lane Baptist Church on June 30th and July 7th when we stage "Dance On" a very different tribute to the life of sixties singer Kathy Kirby, a very dear friend of mine who died last year. This will be raising funds for the Afghanistan Trust, www.afghanistantrust.org in memory of the former Haworth PCSO, Martin Bell, who received a posthumous George Medal after saving a colleague on the battlefield subsequent to becoming a member of the Parachute Regiment.
A huge thank you to all who supported the local Contact Point event at the 40's weekend which raised almost £1,000 for the fund through the static cycle ride. Martin's mum, Elaine, sends you her special thanks.
It is heartening to see our village having some very positive media coverage in recent weeks. We will continue to do our bit through Voice of the Valleys, both on line and in our increasingly popular community newspaper. See www.votv.co.uk
Thanks to all who are showing us real community spirit and support.
